Resident asks Martinsville board to consider one-sided no‑parking on North Wayne Street

A Martinsville resident asked the Board of Works and Safety on March 24 to consider installing no-parking signs on one side of North Wayne Street between Morgan and East Pike ahead of a new restaurant opening in the former Hopkins Woods building.
Steve Bode, who gave his address as 189 North Wayne Street, said a new restaurant is expected to generate curbside parking and that parking on both sides of the block could create access or safety problems once business begins. He asked the board to pursue no-parking signage on the east side of North Wayne Street to align with existing no-parking on a nearby block of North Main Street.
City staff advised Bode to submit a written request to city staff (Mac) so the item could be placed on a future agenda and create a paper trail for formal consideration.
The board did not take immediate action at the meeting; staff said the matter will be scheduled for a future meeting if the resident follows up with the written request.
