The South Pasadena Cultural Heritage Commission on March 20 reviewed the city’s Certified Local Government (CLG) annual report and was reminded that the report is due March 28, 2025.
Allison Becker, staff liaison, told commissioners that the California Office of Historic Preservation (OHP) runs the CLG program and that the city’s certification makes it eligible to apply for certain federal grants that support local historic‑preservation work. Becker said the annual report is required of participating jurisdictions and also noted a separate OHP requirement that every commissioner and the staff liaison complete one training per year relevant to the commission’s work.
"On the OHP website, the Office of Historic Preservation ... they do have training videos from past meetings that are available," Becker said, and offered to send the link to commissioners who had not completed the required training.
Commissioners asked whether the required preservation training was the same as prior orientation and were told it is different; staff confirmed the training must be specifically relevant to historic preservation. Becker said commissioners who have completed the training should send proof to staff so the report can be updated before the deadline.
Under consent calendar business, commissioners noted that minutes from the prior meeting were not included in the packet and that a calendar date on the agenda appeared incorrect. Staff did not record any public comments for items not on the agenda.
