The Brockton City Council opened hearings March 24 on two petitions from Mass Electric Company doing business as National Grid (with Verizon New England on the second petition) to install utility poles and granted both petitions by hand vote.
For North Montello Street, National Grid sought permission to install a new stub pole (identified in the petition as 6‑84) about 20 feet east of the center line of Linden Street, across from existing Pole 6. Calvin Fonseca, representing National Grid, told the council the pole placement responds to the property owner at 69 North Montello Street who plans to demolish a building that currently has an anchor attached; moving the anchor point requires placing the stub pole across the street to maintain stability.
On West Chestnut Street, National Grid and Verizon requested a 50‑foot Class H1 pole labeled 96‑50 to be installed between existing Poles 96 and 97 approximately 300 feet west of Liberty Street. Fonseca said the H1 pole type is designed to improve reliability and help protect lines during storms by using automatic protection features.
Nut graf: Both petitions were uncontested at the hearing; the council chair declared the hearings closed after asking whether anyone was for or opposed, and each petition was granted by hand vote.
Votes: The clerk recorded the grant of the North Montello petition by hand vote. After the West Chestnut petition hearing, the council similarly voted by hand to grant the petition.
Ending: National Grid may proceed with permitting and construction as authorized by the council; the transcript records no opposition or conditions attached to either grant.
