Senate passes technical changes to Prescription Drug Affordability Board reporting

Senators on March 24 passed Senate Bill 289 A, enacting technical changes to statutes governing the Prescription Drug Affordability Board (PDAB).
Senator Patterson, the carrier, said the bill converts a quarterly Department of Consumer and Business Services list of drugs exceeding price thresholds into a yearly report. It also changes PDAB’s mandate from reviewing nine drugs per year to up to nine drugs per year and allows PDAB to include generic market status in an annual report to the health care cost growth target program instead of issuing a separate report.
Patterson described the changes as “housekeeping” recommended by PDAB in its 2024 annual report to the Legislature. The measure was advanced on third reading and declared passed after a roll call; the Clerk announced that the bill had received a constitutional majority.
The law will shorten the frequency of one administrative report, give the board flexibility in the number of affordability reviews it undertakes annually, and consolidate reporting about generic drug market status into the annual PDAB reporting stream.
