Senate adopts resolution honoring Ruth McKeown for long disability advocacy

Senator Patterson, who presented the resolution, said McKeown “was an advocate, a trailblazer, a leader,” and described her work to move long‑term services and supports toward home‑ and community‑based care.
Patterson told colleagues McKeown served on the Governor’s Commission on Senior Services, the Oregon Disabilities Commission, the Oregon Home Care Commission and local advisory councils. Patterson said McKeown used her lived experience with disability to press for independence, dignity and choice in services. The resolution notes McKeown’s career in special education, counseling and program oversight, and recognizes her partnership with advocacy and service organizations.
The resolution was placed as a special order of business and received broad support in a roll call that resulted in adoption by a constitutional majority. The Clerk recorded the final tally and the measure was declared adopted.
The file now reflects the Senate’s formal recognition of McKeown’s contributions to policy and community work on behalf of older Oregonians and people with disabilities.
