Huntridge redevelopment stalled by cell-tower dispute; owner says lawsuit, settlement talks underway

Jay Dapper, principal of Dapper Companies, told the Las Vegas Historic Preservation Commission on April 1 that work to restore the Huntridge Theatre at 1208 East Charleston Boulevard is stalled by a dispute over a cell tower at the rear of the property.

Dapper said the tower, installed about 30 years ago under an original lease with AT&T and later managed by Crown Castle, sits roughly 12 feet from the back of the theater and was erected without the environmental assessment required for properties on the National Register of Historic Places. “I would love to say that we’re under construction, but we’re not yet,” Dapper said. He told commissioners he has filed a lawsuit to press the tower managers to relocate the facility and that settlement talks are ongoing.

The theater’s renovation team has paused final plan submittal because the tower’s current siting conflicts with a new lobby and circulation route that connect two planned “black box” theaters behind the historic auditorium. Gensler, the project’s architect, has reached…
