Executive director lists exhibits, documentaries and May events; clarifies El Dorado name change

The commission’s executive director reported on completed and in-progress projects funded by the Centennial Commission on March 24, including an exhibit in the main lobby tied to a Cirque du Soleil project, a draft Historic West Side Design Guidebook, and several documentary projects.
The director said the Paul R. Williams documentary and the Mob Museum archives project are in progress, and that the City of Las Vegas 1970s documentary will premiere on May 17 at the Plaza. The director also noted that the Springs Preserve State Museum’s Old Spanish Trail exhibit ends in May. Staff said a contract for the 1911 and Fremont Street documentaries is near completion and expected to come to the commission for a vote at the May meeting.
The director clarified that an earlier rodeo grant used the name "Las Vegas Days Rodeo" but that now that the City owns the name El Dorado Days, the Plaza has permission to use the El Dorado Days Rodeo name. Staff reminded commissioners that the annual parade is scheduled for the tenth of May and invited commissioners to ride on the commission’s vehicle in the parade.
