Housing authority seeks road abandonments at Dogwood Terrace as demolition and redevelopment proceed

The housing authority representative told the commission that relocation has reduced occupancy from roughly 270 units down to 27 and said the agency had been working closely with residents to find alternative housing. Commissioners questioned whether the abandonment action would impede resident access; administration and legal staff said the abandonment decision would permit the housing authority to reconfigure circulation and fencing as part of the redevelopment plan but that legal transfer of property would await completion of relocation and demolition steps.
Commissioners passed the abandonment motion with conditions and requested ongoing coordination with the housing authority, public-safety agencies and engineering to ensure emergency access and clear timing for deed execution. Commissioner Jordan Johnson asked to view his former unit before demolition; legal counsel said such access could be arranged as long as it did not interfere with safety and relocation protocols.
Staff will coordinate timing for fencing, demolition and deed execution with the housing authority and return to the commission with any substantive changes to schedule or access plans.
