Committee says workshop recording had no audio; video briefly removed and later restored

Committee members said the recent community workshop was recorded but the recording lacked audio; committee members and staff described a staff-side technical error and proposed a rule change to require IT support at future events.

"So it was a staff issue on our end. So it was just a mistake. But to remedy that going forward, we've talked with staff and it's, going forward, there just has to be IT staff there to make sure a % that that doesn't happen," a staff member said during the meeting.

Committee members noted the absence of audio and, separately, that subtitles were not available on the recording. One member suggested using subtitles when audio capture fails: "If it always gets recorded with subtitles, if there's no sound, at least we can read what's happening. Right?" Channel 51 coverage and interviews of the workshop were praised by multiple speakers.

Separately, several participants said the full workshop video had been removed from the public record for a time and then restored. A committee member described contacting multiple offices after noticing the removal; another said the video was eventually reinstated. Concerns were also voiced about apparent censorship of a participant’s presentation during a prior event: "They censored my my presentation again ... They deleted all my images and videos," a speaker said.

Committee members asked staff to ensure future recordings include audio and either subtitles or verified transcription, and to have IT personnel present at events to prevent a repeat of the problem. No formal policy change was adopted at the meeting.
