Debbie (Historic Preservation staff) told the board the presentation before them was a preliminary evaluation and recommendation and that the report before the board showed the Bandshell meets the local historic designation criteria in Section 118-592 of the City of Miami Beach code. "Staff does believe that this particular property does satisfy the designation criteria contained in 118-592 of the city code," she said, summarizing staff's findings that the Bandshell meets multiple criteria for local historic designation.
The staff presentation reviewed historical and architectural reasons for designation: the site’s long civic history, the Bandshell’s 1961 construction by architect Norman Giller, and its embodiment of post‑World War II Miami Modern (MIMO) design. The report said the…
