Council approves conveyance of Porter Road right-of-way to South Carolina DOT

Rock Hill City Council on March 24 approved an ordinance conveying additional right of way and fee-simple title along Porter Road to the South Carolina Department of Transportation after a widening project was completed.
City staff explained that the Porter Road section was expanded to a three-lane roadway to accommodate recent development on nearby properties. At the meeting staff asked the council to convey the affected property to the state so the Department of Transportation can assume maintenance. Council moved, seconded and approved the conveyance by voice vote with no recorded opposition.
Council discussion was brief and focused on the normal practice of transferring completed roadway segments to DOT for ongoing maintenance. No amendments or conditions were added during the motion.
The conveyance completes the municipal step required to transfer maintenance responsibility to DOT for the recently widened section of Porter Road.
