Commission transmits comprehensive‑plan amendment to preserve Central Polk Parkway corridor

The administrative comprehensive‑plan amendment would add mapping and text to preserve a future limited‑access toll corridor known as the Central Polk Parkway, envisioned to connect State Road 60 in south Winter Haven with U.S. 27 south of Thompson Nursery Road and ultimately to I‑4 in Osceola County.
Economic Opportunity Director Eric Labbe told commissioners the amendment is administrative and intends to depict and preserve a corridor to support selection of a final alignment and eventual right‑of‑way acquisition. He said the planning commission unanimously recommended transmittal on March 4 and that no members of the public commented at that hearing.
City staff said there is no direct city fiscal impact for the transmittal; the action will require review by state and regional agencies as part of the statutorily required transmittal process to Florida Commerce. The commission approved transmittal on a motion and will wait for state comments before scheduling a public hearing on final adoption.
