State, city to host public forum on Route 11 South safety improvements Thursday

The Rochester Planning Board on March 17 was notified that a public presentation and forum on Route 11 South safety improvements will be held this Thursday at 7 p.m. in the same meeting room. The project covers the segment from Country Tire to the Exit 15 interchange and is being advanced with New Hampshire Department of Transportation funding, staff said.
Planning Department staff said the project currently has concept plans showing a concrete median in the center and lane widening in each direction. The forum will present an overview and take questions from attendees; staff said multiple public hearings or forums are required by the funding program and the design will be refined if public input yields viable alternatives.
“Both an overview and questions will be taken,” Planning Department staff said, adding that the city drives the project design process in coordination with the state because the funding flows through the state even though the corridor is a state road.
Staff clarified this presentation covers only the southern portion of Route 11; additional safety projects on other Route 11 segments are expected as separate efforts. The planning board was also told the project is not yet carved in stone and that consulting engineers prepared the current concept plan.
