Community volunteers and groups used the council’s public‑comment period March 17 to announce local events and programs, including a Friends of the Burton Memorial Library sale and a seedling giveaway from Beautify Burton.
Sedona Myers, a longtime Friends volunteer, said the library’s sale will run Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., and described ongoing efforts to repair the library entrance. Myers said the friends are collecting rigid plastics to exchange for a weatherproof bench: “The purpose of the bench is not only to show people what we have earned with 1,000 pounds of plastic, but so that people can have a nice bench...to sit and wait for the bus, wait for a ride, read a book.”
Chris Johns, speaking for Beautify Burton, said the group secured 1,000 tree seedlings through a Michigan Department of Natural Resources grant administered by the Flint River Watershed Coalition. Johns listed species available to residents at no cost — maples, oaks, pines, emerald green arborvitae, and lilacs — and provided a sign‑up link: beautifyburton.com/trees. He said Beautify Burton applied to the Community Foundation of Greater Flint for additional neighborhood small‑grant funding and plans to reserve a portion of seedlings for planting on city‑maintained property.
Council and committee updates noted that Burton Parks and Recreation has reopened youth league signups and that parents can now register and pay online. Council member Smith reminded residents that the Burton Race Series will be held on Memorial Day and that online signups are available.
The public announcements were informational; no council action was taken during the meeting on these items.
