The Perrysburg Amateur Baseball and Softball Commission (PABSE) plans to replace four backstop mats at Rivercrest and hopes to pay the cost through sponsor advertising totaling roughly $6,000, committee members were told.
Committee members said the city ordinance allows advertising on the backs of backstop mats but that the committee must approve individual sponsors to ensure ads are “tasteful” and appropriate for public parks.
A staff speaker said PABSE president Elizabeth McGrady raised the request and provided pictures of the worn mats. The commission’s plan is to sell advertising space to local businesses — examples mentioned included a car wash and an insurance agency — to cover replacement costs. The committee was told the initial work is for four mats at Rivercrest and a municipal site could be addressed next year. The presentation emphasized there would be no additional cost to the committee for the mats.
Committee members said they will exercise the approval authority in the ordinance to vet prospective advertisers. “Tasteful is important,” an audience member said during the discussion.
No formal vote was recorded at the meeting; the item was presented as an informational update and listed as "for your information." Committee staff said they would bring the proposal forward if sponsors are secured and follow the approval steps required by the ordinance.
The discussion did not specify the ordinance number or the timeline for bringing any sponsor agreements back to the council for formal approval.
