Community band says it was excluded from 2024 celebration, asks to perform in 2025

Leslie Duer, representing the Heartland Community Band, urged the Village of Hartland to include the volunteer ensemble in upcoming hometown celebrations after the band was not invited to play in 2024.
"The band is comprised of over 60 community members, in the Hartland area," Duer said during the public-comment period. She said the band pays dues, holds auditions for membership and has performed at the celebration for decades. Duer asked that the band's interest in performing be placed on the public record and said she wanted clarity about whether the band would be welcomed back for the 2025 celebration.
Board members did not take immediate formal action during public comment. The village meeting later approved the farmers market special-event application for Sundays, June through October 2025, but Duer raised the separate question of the hometown celebration invitation and festival programming. The band requested clearer communication from Park & Rec staff about the celebration lineup and an opportunity to perform.
