Staff to apply for funds to fill Saddle Brook path gap near Hall Prairie and Middle School

Brian, a staff member, reported the city received requests from residents in the Saddle Brook subdivision (off Hall Prairie near the middle school) about a gap in the path network where a path stops at Old Dover and resumes north of that point.
He said staff will apply to the same state program used for the Rotary crossing to fill that gap and add a crossing on Old Trail Drive. Brian told the committee the ODOT district representative indicated the project “checks all the boxes” for state funding and that applying through the state program could deliver funds as soon as July or August of the same year, whereas the Safe Routes to School federal timeline could delay funding until 2028.
Brian said the section west of Hall Prairie lies in the township while the road itself is in the city, and staff have coordinated with ODOT District 2. Committee members supported staff pursuing the grant and raised no objections.
Staff will prepare and submit the application and return with timing and cost information when available.
