Perrysburg committee schedules rehearing of HLC appeal after disclosure of outside contacts

The Committee of the Whole of the Perrysburg Board & Committees announced a rehearing of the appeal of HLC decision 28-202024 and ended its committee deliberations on the matter. Staff said the rehearing will take place Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2025, at 5:30 p.m. before the City Council.

Tim Arthur, a city staff member, told the committee that the appeal had been pending when the city learned that both parties sent communications directly to council members. "In the interest of transparency and to make sure that all information considered by council is information presented on the record, the parties in the city determine that it would be in the best interest of all to rehear the appeal," Arthur said. "Therefore, we will have a rehearing of the appeal on HLC decision 28-202024 on Tuesday, 02/04/2025 at 05:30PM." Arthur also clarified that because the rehearing will occur before council, "there will be no more deliberations of the committee."

At the start of the session a presiding committee member (name not specified in the record) noted the president of the council was absent because of a last-minute work issue and called the Committee of the Whole to order. Roll call recorded Mr. Fuller, Mr. Coleman, Mr. McCarthy, Mr. Redmay, Mr. Van Heusen, Mr. Weber and Ms. Wozdie as present. The presiding committee member moved to adjourn at the close of the announcement; a second was given and the motion carried on an "aye" vote. The presiding member then closed the meeting with the remark, "We're adjourned. I guess until 06:20."

The committee did not take any additional formal action on the appeal at that meeting. The rehearing date given by staff places the matter back before the full City Council for an on-the-record proceeding.
