Board approves hanging sign variance at 126 West Front Street supported by historic commission

The Board of Zoning Appeals approved a sign variance that will permit a hanging sign on an existing freestanding post at 126 West Front Street.
Staff described the property as zoned C-2 (central business) and recommended approval because the hanging-post sign fits the character of the historic district; the application had also been supported by the Historic Landmarks Commission. Lynn Cherry, the applicant and current tenant at 126 West Front Street, said the sign was created for the existing post and that prior occupancy had used that same post; the timing of her move required a new permit.
No neighbors appeared to speak in opposition, and the board voted unanimously to approve the variance. Members recorded approvals from Travis Wolfinger, Michael McIntyre, Aaron O'Rear, Matthew Sutter and Bill Williams.
