School facilities update: stage lighting, gym renovations and $3.3 million deferred-maintenance program outlined

Josh Gagne presented the facilities update and a list of current projects, saying the work is largely procurement, contract and design activity this time of year. “Typically this time of year, we're just purely procuring, doing contracts, submittals, design,” he said.
The presentation reviewed work moving forward under the district's deferred-maintenance program. Gagne reported the stage lighting and audio project at Central High School should be complete by the end of the month; that contractor will then perform stage lighting and audio work at Westside High School. Westside's auditorium renovation was reported at roughly 50% complete and on schedule for turnover in mid-May.
The district is doing demolition and upgrades at Memorial High School gym this spring, including removal of an oversized structural element and scheduled painting during April break, with a new floor planned for summer so the gym is ready for the fall semester. Gagne said Memorial library carpeting and additional painting at other schools are planned during the same summer window.
Other projects cited included boiler replacements at McDonough and Jewett (under design), a procured roof project at Webster, upcoming submittals for Green Acres (wings A and B), and media-center updates at Smith and Gosselaar. Gagne said the summer schedule will also include work on guidance-office flooring at Central and common-area painting at Highland/Goss Falls.
Committee member Damian Potter asked about the $3.3 million deferred-maintenance allocation and what it covers; Gagne listed the major items that make up that amount—two roofs at Green Acres, the boilers at Jewett and McDonough, the West Auditorium renovation and Memorial gym work—and noted smaller paint and finish projects will use remaining balances.
The update closed with staff noting roof-and-gym sequencing constraints (roof work above gym spaces requires contractor scheduling so teams are not working above each other) and that storefront and exterior-envelope work will continue as needs arise.
The presentation was informational; no formal board action was taken on these project summaries.
