Recount shows warrant article 8 fails to pass in Salem School District

The final recount tally, Scanlon wrote, was 1,554 yes and 1,560 no, meaning the warrant article failed on recount. The letter, read to the board during its March 20 meeting, also said the article had failed on election night, when results were 1,551 yes and 1,559 no.
The letter thanked the school board’s Board of Recount, the school district clerk and moderator, the town moderator Bernie Campbell and town clerk Susan Wall for assistance, and praised community members who served as transparent ballot counters. The letter was signed “Sincerely yours, Terry Scanlon, Salem School District moderator.”
The announcement was made during the board’s student and staff recognition portion of the agenda before the meeting moved into regular business. No board action was taken on the recount announcement; the letter served as a public report of the recount outcome.
