Board approves purchase of replacement generator for wastewater treatment facility

The Village of Jackson Board of Public Works on March 25 authorized purchase of a replacement generator for the wastewater treatment facility from Circa Electric for $251,437, to be paid from the replacement fund.

Mr. Kober, Director of Public Works, said the quote from Circa (Circa Electric) was $14,528 higher than the original quote but remained the lowest of three proposals after soliciting additional quotes, including one from JRD Electric. He recommended an aluminum housing for the unit to increase longevity for outdoor siting.

The nut graf: buying the unit now secures a generator with a long lead time (about one year) while engineering and installation specifications — including switchgear and tank replacement — will be developed by Town & Country Engineering; the purchase covers the equipment only, with installation to follow as a separate phase.

Board members asked about installation costs; Kober said the $251,437 figure covers purchase only and that engineering, switchgear and siting plans are part of a separate contract (Town & Country had been authorized in a prior meeting to design that portion). He added the existing generator has an underground steel fuel tank likely in place for more than 40 years; the plan is for an above‑ground tank with associated site work.

Motion to purchase the generator from Circa Electric was moved by Engelhardt and seconded by Mitchell; the motion carried on a voice vote with no recorded opposition.

Ending: Staff will proceed to order the generator and continue engineering work on installation specifications; the board was advised that delivery is expected to take roughly a year from order placement.
