The committee reported the Westside solar project, placed online in February 2024, is fully functioning and that its generation is being used by the street department and the water distribution facility. Committee members said hourly generation and usage data are now available and were of interest to Purdue University researchers; staff plan a June visit to Purdue to review turf and irrigation research.
Members discussed measuring reductions in peak hourly demand as a useful performance metric and noted a target to reduce peak hourly demand by 10% to lower energy needs. The group also discussed using Purdue research to quantify gallons-per-acre watering needs for different turf types and to publicize water and carbon savings in a future newsletter.
No formal committee motion was required for these informational updates; members directed staff to post relevant project information and to continue working with partner researchers.
