At its Feb. 6 meeting the State Board of Chiropractic Examiners agreed to begin a systematic review of Connecticut’s chiropractic statutes and rules and to place the item on the next meeting agenda, with an initial focus on the statutes.
Acting Chair Carlos Begodian said the proposal grew from earlier consensus that a periodic review would benefit the board and newer members. A packet of regulations and a link to the Connecticut statutes were emailed to board members in advance; Begodian described the packet as “a short packet” and suggested the board begin the review by examining the statutes at the next meeting.
Kevin (staff member) explained the mechanics of changing regulations, telling the board that revising a regulation “doesn't have to be voted on by the legislature, but... it does have to go through the legislative review committee” and that the process can be “no less arduous than going through the legislative session.” He said the board should review the materials and raise items that merit further discussion or formal revision.
Board members agreed to schedule the statutes for the next meeting and to allocate up to an hour for discussion; Begodian said he hopes the next meeting will be in person. Betty (board administrator) said the next meeting date is May 15. The board did not vote on substantive changes at this meeting; it agreed to a review process and to return with prepared discussion points.
Ending
Board staff will circulate the statutes link and the regulations packet for review before the May meeting; members asked staff to place the statutes review on the next agenda.
