Council approves multiple rezonings and conditional-use permits, tables one alcohol renewal

The Mission City Council on Monday approved a package of rezonings and conditional-use permits recommended by the Planning and Zoning Commission. The decisions included rezonings, event-center permits, drive-through approval, pool-house permits and several alcohol-on-premise approvals with monitoring time limits in some cases.
Key votes and items approved (motions carried unanimously unless noted):
- Rezoning from C-3 to R-1 at Lot 73, Las Misiones Estates Subdivision (ordinance no. 5610). - Rezoning from AOI to C-3 for 5.151 acres out of Lot 17-11 (ordinance no. 5611). - Conditional-use permit for Think Society event center, 1512 E. Expressway 83 (ordinance no. 5612). - Conditional-use permit for Algo VIP events center, 704 E. Griffin Parkway, approved for a two-year term to monitor parking (ordinance no. 5613). - Conditional-use permit for Barrel & Cream Delights events center (downtown Conway), two-year permit to monitor parking (ordinance no. 5614). - Conditional-use permit for pool house construction at 2811 Santa Ana Street (ordinance no. 5615). - Conditional-use permit for on-premises alcohol at Point Battle business on Expressway (2-year monitoring recommendation; ordinance no. 5616). - Conditional-use permit for home occupation (Urgent Transport) at 3307 Amethyst (ordinance no. 5619). - Conditional-use permit and drive-through plus on-premise alcohol for Los Cuartes (drive-through life-of-use; alcohol for two years). - Portable building/office at a small auto sales site (two-year CUP; ordinance no. 5618). - Conditional-use permit for Mexico Taqueria (alcohol and live music) approved with a one-year reevaluation per prior Planning & Zoning recommendation.
One pending renewal was tabled: the Ice House (a neighborhood bar at 15 N. Francisco Ave.) had its alcohol renewal discussion tabled so police could supply recent incident/response records; the council placed the item on hold to await communications data.
For several permits the Planning & Zoning Commission recommended two-year permits to monitor parking and alcohol impacts; council adopted those recommendations. The approvals will be followed by any necessary business licensing and, where applicable, alcohol license approvals through the state.
