Franklin City parks staff report spring maintenance, flag issues with Pleasant View courts

The discussion focused on persistent cracking and puddling at Pleasant View’s east court. A commissioner noted the east court developed cracks within a few years and shows standing water and staining; Sean said drainage and possible settling appear to be factors. Sean said the commission typically opens courts “from April 15 to October 15,” weather permitting, and that staff try to open them earlier when possible.
Commissioners and staff discussed prioritization and cost: resurfacing or a full rebuild would be expensive and the east court’s drainage appears to require more than surface patching. The commission did not set a date for major repairs during the meeting.
Separately, speakers praised city crews for the response to an overnight water-main break. A resident credited the city’s water and sewer crews and public works with restoring service and cleaning streets and yards after the break.
The commission’s immediate next steps are continued “spring cleaning” of park facilities, targeted repairs to playground hardware, and further assessment of the Pleasant View courts to determine whether resurfacing or drainage work is required.
