Staff said the city typically seeks allocations near $200,000 through the CDBG program and tries to select capital projects within the program's eligibility map that will serve low‑income neighborhoods.
Public comment: Theresa Craft said she supports infrastructure work but urged the city to prioritize affordable housing within grant applications and recommended considering public facilities such as repurposing an old firehouse. A written submission read by a caller urged use of funds for curb cuts, bus shelters and handicapped‑accessible park improvements.
Council discussion: Councilmembers praised staff for preparing the application on a tight timetable and for publishing the eligibility map in the meeting packet. The council noted that CDBG awards are limited and selecting a capital sidewalk project can have a multi‑year impact. Staff said the application deadline is March 3 and the project selection was chosen to align with eligible blocks in the packet map.
Vote: The motion to authorize the 2025 CDBG application passed unanimously.
