The Euclid Civil Service Commission reopened discussion Tuesday on a proposed revision to Section 12.1 of its rules intended to increase the number of candidates applying to the fire department.
Chief (name not specified) told commissioners the change would reduce a barrier to applicants: “We feel that these changes are gonna help us get more candidates by going to an hour requirement, as stated in the new language,” the chief said. The commission did not read the entire proposed text into the record and discussed posting the underlined new language and proposed strikeouts with the next meeting’s agenda so members of the public and commissioners can review it.
Legal counsel Mr. Lauder confirmed that posting the proposed language with the agenda was the commission’s planned next step; commissioners agreed to table a formal vote until a future meeting after the text is distributed. The commission also stated that words underlined in the draft denote new language and words with a strikethrough indicate deletions.
No formal action was taken Feb. 4; the commission plans to consider the amendment at its next meeting after members and the public have had an opportunity to review the posted proposal.
