Euclid announces urban forestry meeting, senior services usage and 'Drive to Succeed' driver-education grants

City officials used the Feb. 3 Euclid City Council meeting to highlight several community programs and upcoming public meetings.
The administration announced a public meeting on the Urban Forestry Comprehensive Plan at Euclid High School cafeteria (door No. 1) on Saturday, Feb. 15, beginning at 10 a.m. The city hired a new urban forester, Jody Lathwell, and said three years of grant funding will support efforts to evaluate and expand the city’s tree canopy.
Staff also said Euclid Senior Programs recorded 19,253 visits last year and served more than 40,000 meals through congregate and home-delivered programs. The Euclid senior center is at 1 Bliss Lane; Cassandra Bronson is listed as the senior-program director.
Captain Donna Holden of the Euclid Police Department described a Drive to Succeed program funded by the Ohio Traffic Safety Office to help teenagers ages 15 to 20 with driver-education tuition. Captain Holden said 30 awards have been issued so far and the city is seeking roughly 20 more students before the grant closes; the local training partner is New Beginnings driving school at 220 Second Street.
Other items noted: continued public outreach for the Sims Park reimagining (in collaboration with SmithGroup), a realtor outreach event March 6 at Signature Events and Catering, and a state-of-the-city address coordinated through the Chamber of Commerce on Feb. 20. City Hall will be closed Feb. 17 for Presidents Day; the next council meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 18.
