Representative Healy (District 15) presented House Bill 327 to the Health and Welfare Committee and asked that the committee send the bill to the floor with a due-pass recommendation. The committee approved the motion by voice vote.
Healy said the bill is a statutory cleanup to reflect evolving clinical practice. He described a history in which medical assistants were credentialed to work under physicians and physician assistants and said changes in practice mean advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs) now have full autonomy in many settings. "We thought we should probably clean that up and make it so that we can continue practicing in clinics and having these wonderful, certified medical assistants assisting and being a valuable part of our practice," Healy told the committee.
Representative Wheeler moved that the committee send House Bill 327 to the floor with a due-pass recommendation. There was no scheduled outside testimony. The committee approved the motion by voice vote; the chairman announced the bill "is sent to the floor with a due pass recommendation." The committee did not record a roll-call vote or individual vote tallies in the transcript.
Healy offered to answer questions and thanked the committee for hearing the bill; the committee advanced the bill so the full House may consider it next.
