The Plattsburgh Common Council voted on March 20 to renew the license for the Plattsburgh Farmers and Producers Market for the 2025 season, while councilors pressed staff about the condition of the market building and arrangements for deliveries on market days.
Why it matters: The license allows the market to operate this season; building condition and operational logistics affect vendors and visitors.
Councilor Towne moved to renew the license and Councilor Gibbs seconded; the motion was approved by roll call. Several councilors asked questions during debate about the physical condition of the market building and steps to address leaks. A staff member reported a recent inspection and said the building "was in really good shape" when visited but acknowledged there were some leaks the city would address this year.
Councilors also asked whether Saturday deliveries to the WRRF (the city’s wastewater resource/recovery facility) would be canceled on market days as in previous seasons. Staff said the delivery changes are included in the contract and that they would ensure Saturday WRRF deliveries are canceled on market days.
Councilors discussed the possibility of finding alternative uses for another city-owned building at Turkey Street Park that staff said was in good condition after cleanup by the Department of Public Works. Councilors emphasized the need to maintain existing facilities rather than letting them deteriorate.
The council approved the market license by roll call. Staff indicated further contract and operational planning will continue and that staff and council would review additional information for next year’s market operations.
