Council shortens Tourism Authority trustee terms to four years

The Muskogee City Council voted March 20 to adopt Resolution 3026, amending the Muskogee Tourism Authority bylaws to set trustees’ terms at four years and allow trustees to serve one additional four‑year term upon first term expiration.
Councilor Jamie Stout referred the item back to the council after the Tourism Authority reviewed its bylaws. “They have went through their process with their board, and so it's back to us for approval,” Miss Stout said during the discussion. The resolution in the agenda describes the change as moving trustee terms from five years to four years; in remarks during the meeting Stout said the change came from a prior seven‑year term period that the authority reconsidered.
Council discussion confirmed the Tourism Authority board had been involved in the review. A council member asked whether trustees were aware terms would be shortened; Stout said the board had approved the change and that details were included in the meeting packet. The council voted unanimously to adopt the resolution.
The resolution instructs staff to implement the bylaw amendment; the Tourism Authority’s trustee appointment and timing will follow the authority’s bylaws as revised. The action was procedural and administrative in nature and did not involve an appropriation.
