The Quincy City License Board approved a transfer of an off-premise package store wine and malt beverage license for West Elm Variety at 139 West Elm Ave on a voice vote. The board also approved a request to allow the new owner to pledge the license and inventory to Rockland Trust as collateral for a loan.
An attorney from Dermakulte, Miller and Hanley, representing the applicant Elm Ave Corp, told the board that Tejas Patel would be the proposed manager and “is the sole officer, director, and shareholder” of the acquiring company. The attorney said Patel “has close to 10 years experience in the industry, operating and owning, both convenience stores, gas stations.”
The applicant said the sale is a turnkey acquisition and that the business will continue to operate as West Elm Variety with no planned changes to the premises. The attorney said the current owner listed on the license is Sri Shiva Corp and that Elm Ave Corp seeks to take over the existing package store license for the single-story retail space of about 1,200 square feet.
Board members asked whether the transaction included the building; the attorney replied the purchase covered only the business and its assets, not the property. A board member confirmed that “Jay” would continue to own the building.
A motion to approve the transfer and the pledge of the license and inventory to Rockland Trust was made during the hearing and approved by voice vote; the transcript records general assent (“Aye”) but does not record individual named vote tallies. The board clerk said the application had been advertised and was in order.
The board clerk closed the regular license board agenda after the vote and moved on to routine minutes and adjournment items.
