Representative Brown Powers recognized members of the Waterloo Student City Council and their instructor, Mrs. Luce, and said the students helped secure a suicide-prevention telephone number printed on the back of student identification cards. Brown Powers invited members of the House to meet with the students on the floor.
"They are here with their instructor, Mrs. Luce, and several others joining them today to talk to us about mental health and the schools," Brown Powers said, adding that "they helped us get across the finish line" for the suicide-prevention number on the back of student IDs. Brown Powers asked colleagues to "please take a couple minutes just to visit with them today."
The transcript does not record further discussion of a related policy, funding, or legislative action; it records the recognition and a request that lawmakers speak briefly with the visiting students.
