Council OKs surplus of 13-year-old engineering truck, staff to buy replacement via state contract

Engineering staff told the committee the department operates a fleet for inspectors and engineers and requested council approval to surplus a 13-year-old light-duty truck and purchase a similar replacement through the state competitive bid contract.
"We have one that is 13 years old. We would like, council's approval to surplus, and under department head authority, we are, going to be purchasing a similar vehicle under the state competitive bid contract," Mr. Lieberman said. He said eight of the department’s ten engineering vehicles participate in the city's capital replacement program.
Councilmember Weibel moved approval; Osovski seconded. The committee held a voice vote and the motion carried unanimously.
Why it matters: the approval allows planned capital replacement of an aging city vehicle used for inspections and project oversight; staff said the purchase will follow the state contract and the surplus will proceed under department head authority.
