County approves $149,900 agreement to study failing retaining wall on Cedar Hills Drive

Peoria County approved an agreement with TWM in the amount of $149,900 to design replacement of a failing retaining wall along Cedar Hills Drive east of Knoxville.
County staff described an old concrete retaining wall at a sharp creek bend that has partially failed and required periodic rock (riprap) to stabilize it after heavy rains. The county said it could not find original plans for the wall and will study options that could include a sheet-pile wall with tiebacks or a new concrete wall.
Staff estimated the affected slope runs about 150 feet. County Board Member Matt moved the agreement approval; Terry seconded and the motion passed unanimously. Staff said the study will recommend the most cost-effective long-term solution based on soil conditions and will inform construction plans.
