Chillicothe City Council voted to amend the evening’s agenda to add an ordinance that would create a dedicated fund for the city’s Appalachian Community Grant Program award and accept the full award of $34,819,990 from the Ohio Department of Development.
Councilman DeMent moved to amend the agenda to add the thirteenth item; Councilman Creed seconded and the amendment passed by roll call. The newly added Item 13 was read as a first reading: an ordinance authorizing the city auditor to create Fund 254 (Appalachian Community Grant Program) and accept and appropriate the city’s Appalachian Community Grant Program award in the amount of $34,819,990.
Auditor Spettenagle explained why the new fund was added. Spettenagle said staff “had them add a section to that to create a new fund to account for that grant, so that way, it doesn't look like any funds overstated by $34,000,000 and it helps, easily track those funds.” The ordinance was introduced for first reading; no final vote on the acceptance or appropriation occurred during the meeting.
