Chief Hercic reviewed the competitive procurement. Staff received three proposals and interviewed two firms; TNT's proposal scored highest on creativity, water-conservation features and project schedule. The chief and staff highlighted TNT's subterranean irrigation design, which staff estimated would reduce water use by about 320,000 gallons per year compared with a traditional irrigation system, an amount the presentation described as roughly equivalent to the annual water use of two average residential customers.
Staff noted TNT also identified areas where the scope could be adjusted to achieve cost savings if needed. The commission approved TNT's bid on a voice vote and directed staff to proceed with contracting and project scheduling.
What happens next: staff will finalize the contract and coordinate schedule and staging with construction of station site work; funds for the landscaping are budgeted to the Fire Station 3 project account.
