Oak Presley soccer complex 95% complete; council approves donor signage and entry arch request

Project leaders updated the council on the Oak Presley (Oak Ridge/Oak Presley listed in staff materials) soccer complex at Oak Presley Park and asked council to approve several on‑site signs and an entry arch.
Mark Cornett, the project spokesperson, said the fields are "about 95% complete," with lights, parking, a maintenance building, pavilion and restrooms finished; remaining items include equipment acquisition, gates, field striping and final punch‑list items. The council reviewed three sign groupings: field identification panels with sponsor panels (one panel per field for a two‑year sponsorship), an on‑site arch/entry sign between the maintenance building and pavilion (initially designed at approximately 12 feet tall and 12 feet wide), and a CMU kick wall for practice along one edge of the complex. Cornett said the field signs are intended to help visitors find field numbers and that sponsors had committed to two‑year donations to help support maintenance.
Staff said most proposed signage fits existing sign rules; the archway would require council approval because it is a vehicular/entry arch and similar requests have required a variance. Council voted to approve the proposed signage package, authorized the archway sign request for council consideration and directed staff to proceed with a city standard sign on Fair Drive as the park entrance marker.
Council and residents praised the project’s local fundraising and construction effort. The Parks Foundation also requested a small donor plaque to acknowledge tree donors; staff said that plaque will be handled as a smaller attachment to the pavilion.
