Lake Jackson council approves consent agenda, PEG agreement and donations; allocates $21,336 to BISD equipment

The council unanimously approved the consent agenda items 1 through 8, then voted to accept an updated interlocal agreement with Brazosport ISD on the use of PEG funds. The council also adopted Resolution No. 980 to amend the PEG fund and approve BISD equipment purchases totaling $21,336.55 for four cameras and related equipment. Separately the council approved donating three decommissioned police vehicles—units 1228, 1229 and 1238—to the Brazosport College Police Department.
Why it matters: PEG funds are restricted revenues that come through cable-collection mechanisms and can be used only for equipment and capital assets for public, educational or governmental programming. The council’s action moves planned equipment purchases forward for BISD and reallocates surplus city police vehicles to a local public-safety training partner.
City staff said the PEG fund balance built up because school and community partners had not requested as much funding in prior years. “This fund can only be... very restricted,” a city staff member said during the meeting, noting the money must be used for capital equipment. The resolution funds 4 cameras and related gear for BISD production and is drawn from the city’s PEG fund balance.
Brazosport College Police Department Chief Chris Mazzuno addressed the council about the vehicle donation, saying the department had been “desperate for cars” and that donated vehicles historically help them maintain training and patrol needs while they wait to acquire new units. City staff explained that decommissioned vehicles that are not donated are typically taken to auction.
