Orange City SD board honors winter athletes and performing arts participants

At its March 17 meeting Orange City SD members recognized winter athletes and performing-arts participants from across the district.
Dr. Campbell introduced the recognitions and called forward coaches and students to celebrate season highlights. Genevieve Duxbury, the girls wrestling coach, highlighted Natalie Martinsic's second straight trip to the state tournament and said the season featured a 30-13 record with 18 falls and two technical falls. "You're witnessing history, as Natalie becomes part of the fabric of the story of girls wrestling in high school in Ohio," Duxbury said.
Coach Adam Katz reported 10 swimmers and divers qualified for state this year; eight of those participants are expected to return next year. The boys 400-meter freestyle relay team placed seventh at the state meet. The ice hockey team was recognized after winning the Baron Cup'its third title in school history'and for advancing in the state tournament.
Other recognitions included band, choir and orchestra achievements (state qualifiers) and individual milestones such as career scoring by Rachel Oberster in girls basketball. Coaches, parents and administrators were thanked for their support.
The board repeatedly noted the value of public recognition and said a larger celebratory meeting will be scheduled in May to honor the broad set of student accomplishments.
