Superintendent announces STEM+M partnership, congressional visit and teacher recognition

Stanley said the district hosted Congressman Maguire, who toured Seneca Park and district facilities while discussing workforce development. "He went on a tour of the facility and got to talk to a lot of kids, a lot of teachers," Stanley said.
The superintendent also reported a working session with DES, a contractor the district is partnering with to implement a STEM+M curriculum in middle schools. Stanley said DES and two Navy representatives responsible for funding attended an all-day meeting at Rushford Middle School and discussed possible program expansions. He described the meeting as a step toward strengthening relationships and exploring creative program ideas.
Separately, Stanley said the district plans a professional promotional video for the STEM+M/CTE initiatives; the video will include a voiceover by television host Mike Rowe. "It's gonna be professionally done," Stanley said, adding that Rowe will provide the voice-over but will not be present for filming.
The board also learned that Alta Vista teacher Daryl Smith is a finalist for the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching. Stanley called the recognition "quite an accomplishment." The district said it will publicize further details as they become available.
Board members reported local construction and renovation updates, including continued progress at Brookville High School and Russburg facilities, and reminded members about a VSBA Southern Regional Spring Forum at Russburg Middle School with CTE-themed presentations.
These announcements were informational; no formal board action was recorded on the partnerships or promotional materials during the March 24 meeting.
