Superintendent presents improved parent, student and employee survey results; highlights district gains

Superintendent Dr. Flagg presented the Fond du Lac School District’s parent, student and employee survey results on March 24 and highlighted measurable gains across several metrics, including parent satisfaction, student experience, and employee engagement.
Dr. Flagg said the district contracted with Studer to administer anonymous surveys and reported that 1,208 parents completed the parent/caregiver survey this year (up from about 950 the prior year). He said the parent mean score rose to 4.12 on a five-point scale and that the proportion of parents who agree or strongly agree that their child’s school provides a safe learning environment rose from 71% to 80%.
Student responses came from 3,490 students this year, Dr. Flagg said, and the student-experience average moved to 3.85 from 3.67 the prior year. Employee engagement participation increased to 88% of employees, with the mean score moving to 3.91 from 3.87 a year earlier. Dr. Flagg highlighted several question-level improvements, including the share of students who said “I feel safe at my school” (up from 55% to 61%) and the percentage of staff who would recommend the district to parents (up from 53% four years ago to 72% now).
Dr. Flagg attributed the gains to district systems and leadership work with external partners, including Studer, the University of Virginia’s Darden School Partnership for Leaders in Education and the district’s Initiative 1 leadership program. He said the district will distribute a newsletter to families and roll out additional materials and a video message to publicize the results.
The superintendent also reviewed academic-ranking improvements for individual schools and the district, saying the district’s statewide rank rose from the 11th percentile to about the 51st percentile since his arrival. He cited gains at Chegwin Elementary, Parkside, Sabish Middle School, Evans Elementary and the high school, and he framed the improvements as the result of leadership, accountability and “challenging the status quo.”
Board members praised staff and the district’s engagement work and asked follow-up questions about specific pillars such as student mental health and bus safety; administration said it would consider additional data targets where appropriate. The presentation concluded with Dr. Flagg’s remarks that this was his final annual report to the board and his urging that future boards “use data, not emotions, to drive continuous improvement.”
