Economic development director outlines business retention, wayfinding and property updates

Mayfield Heights' economic development representative reported on first-quarter outreach, a wayfinding-and-signage project and commercial property activity on March 24.
The representative said the city is conducting business-retention visits in coordination with Team NEO and JobsOhio, and will begin quarterly check-ins with larger employers in the corporate park. "We've conducted several meetings and heard recurring themes about federal-level uncertainty affecting supply chains and workforce; businesses asked for improved city communication," the presenter said.
Staff plans include building a contact list for facilities in office complexes so service departments can notify businesses proactively about breaks or outages, producing an electronic business e-newsletter in the second quarter, and updating economic development website content using a JobsOhio-provided site-listing widget. The presenter said the widget displays available larger sites drawn from the state database and that staff can add smaller listings manually over time.
The city's wayfinding and signage steering committee will meet virtually next week, with the project on track for a June completion and a later bidding process. The Mayfield Heights magazine will circulate an initial proof next week with a targeted mail date in early May.
On real estate activity, staff reported the Landerbrook Corporate Center three-building complex is listed for sale and said the Progressive building on Parkland is under contract. "The office market remains challenged but we've seen some inquiries and leasing activity," the presenter said.
Council had no objections; members asked about measures to connect businesses to one another and whether career fairs could be used to help employers recruit. The presenter said local chambers and regional partners organize many fairs and that the city can explore additional coordination.
