The Community Development Office reported it will meet with the designer who worked on the Fox Hill playground to assess square footage, layout options and cost estimates for South Acres. Staff said gathering that early data will be done at no cost to the city and will be used to inform an eventual decision.
On the skate park, staff said a ferry company has pledged $100,000 toward improvements but emphasized the amount is a pledge—not funds in hand. Staff recalled prior cost ideas that ranged about $500,000–$600,000 for a full skate-park redesign; council and staff discussed whether $100,000 could make targeted improvements and agreed to first gather community views and conceptual designs before seeking further funding or committing to a scope.
Staff proposed an outreach model similar to the Fox Hill Playground process: produce conceptual designs, solicit community feedback and then refine a scope for fundraising or capital budgeting. Council members also suggested bringing skateboarders and other users into early planning.
The council asked staff to return with cost estimates and suggested scheduling community workshops once preliminary concepts are available.
