"I plan on using the funds to buy a new home," Harris said. She told the meeting that the budgeting lessons helped her save and that she intends not only to purchase a home for her children but to create generational assets to pass on to future grandchildren.
Harris described employment as a continuing concern: as a single parent she said she worries that increasing work hours could affect her program eligibility if she experiences a job loss. She also recommended families take advantage of the program, saying many people "don't know about the program" and that resources available include credit and budget counseling and community referral emails.
The remarks were a personal testimony during public comment; no formal action or vote accompanied the statement.
