The Plan Commission on Dec. 3 approved the city’s acquisition of four adjacent parcels on the north side of Oshkosh Avenue just west of North Sawyer Street, a block-long assemblage totaling roughly 0.56 acres.
Staff said the parcels are being assembled to accommodate future right-of-way dedications and intersection improvements at North Sawyer and Oshkosh Avenue. Two parcels currently contain buildings, while two are vacant and used for parking. The City Redevelopment Authority and the city already own multiple lots in the block; the proposed acquisitions continue that consolidation.
Council member Nichols, who said the intersection is one he uses daily, praised the acquisition as progress toward an intersection redesign. No members of the public testified on this item. The commission voted 7-0 to adopt the staff findings and recommendations.
Staff said next steps will include coordination of right‑of‑way dedications, potential vacations, and inclusion of the parcels in project plans for the intersection improvements.
