The Plan Commission unanimously approved Dec. 3 an amendment to the specific implementation plan for Freddy’s at 525 South Washburn Street to allow a single 33-square-foot primary drive‑thru menu board where code normally limits the primary board to 24 square feet.
City planning staff supported the request because the applicant will use only one primary board rather than a primary plus presell board combination, which would permit up to 36 square feet in aggregate (24 + 12). Staff also noted the proposed board sits well back from the public right-of-way (about a 90-foot rear-yard setback) and is not highly visible from the street. The applicant agreed to provide three additional shrubs; staff said the added landscaping offsets the BSM request.
No members of the public spoke on the item. The commission voted 7-0 to adopt the staff findings and recommendations.
Staff will include the agreed landscaping as a condition of approval and proceed with administrative processing of the SIP amendment.
