Plan Commission approves partial vacation of Marion Road right-of-way to support Mercury Marine parking expansion

The Oshkosh City Plan Commission on Feb. 19 approved vacating a triangular sliver of public right-of-way along the south side of Marion Road to support Mercury Marine’s proposed parking-lot expansion at 505 Marion Road.
Staff described the area as roughly 183 feet long, up to 16 feet wide, totaling about 1,100 square feet. The vacation follows the back edge of the public sidewalk and will attach to the lots to the south; a certified survey map will then combine Mercury Marine’s parcels with two Oshkosh Redevelopment Authority lots and a portion of a city-owned lot into a single parcel for the parking project. Staff noted a small section of city storm sewer lies in the area but said state statute allows continued municipal rights to facilities in vacated right-of-way for access, maintenance, replacement and relocation.
The department of public works reviewed the request and had no objections; staff said the vacation aligns with the Marion Road–Pearl Avenue redevelopment area plan adopted in 1998 and with earlier agreements allowing parking improvements. The commission adopted the staff findings and recommendations 6-0. Staff indicated site design and parcel consolidation plans will return to the commission in subsequent reviews.
