Thomas Street environmental testing awaiting Ramble proposal, staff says

City staff told the Economic Development Committee that the Wisconsin DNR must approve a proposal from contractor Ramble before phase 2 environmental testing and cleanup can proceed on Thomas Street infill lots.
City staff told the Wausau Economic Development Committee on March 4 that progress on the Thomas Street infill lots depends on the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources contracting Ramble for phase 2 environmental testing.
“We’re still in that waiting process. Ramble is the contractor that handled the phase 1 analysis. They’re waiting to get a proposal from them in order to engage them on phase 2 testing,” a city staff member said. Staff described the work as a necessary step before any redevelopment or building could proceed on the Thomas Street parcels.
Committee members thanked staff for providing regular updates; staff said they would continue to report on timing as the DNR and contractor schedule permits. No formal action was required or taken on the update.
Staff also noted that the RFQ for infill contractors — approved separately during the meeting — is not dependent on Thomas Street cleanup but that lots on Thomas Street will be included as available inventory once environmental testing and any remediation are complete.
